Tin can crafts – Decorate a tin can with the Kitsch Kitchen Napkins

An empty tin can is more than just trash – it’s a mini canvas for your creativity. In this blog, I’ll show you how to decorate a can with a cheerful napkin from Kitsch Kitchen. Whether you love flowers, bright colours or retro prints: this is the DIY to turn a boring can into a real eye-catcher.

We were inspired by Anna King’s reel of @makinghomematter on Instagram and made our own version!

Why decorate a tin can?

– It is sustainable (yay upcycling!)
– It costs almost nothing
– It is super fun to do
– You get a unique item for your home, party or as a present

What you need:

– Empty and clean can (beans, soup, soda – anything goes)
– Kitsch Kitchen napkin (or another one with a cool print)
– Mod Podge or decoupage glue
– Brush
– Scissors
– Optional: matt or glossy varnish

This is how to decorate your tin can step by step!

1. Prepare the tin
Remove the label, clean and dry the tin. Any sharp edges? Just smooth them down with pliers or a file.

2. Separate the napkin
Use only the top layer of the napkin – the one with the print.

3. Apply glue
Spread a thin layer of glue on the tin. Carefully place the napkin on top and smooth it with your fingers or a brush. Be kind to the napkin – it tears quickly!

4. Let it dry & finish
When it is dry, you can put another layer of Mod Podge or varnish over it for protection and a nice finish.

5. Finished is your work of art!
Use the can as a vase, pen holder, tea-light holder or collect fun things in it. Guaranteed to be a happy-maker!

Extra tip
Combine different cans and napkins for a colourful set. Think: table styling, garden party, picnic or cheerful cluttered corners at home.
